Practical Empathy: Gain Greater Collaboration & Creativity in Your Work

Friday, July 24, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (PDT)

Puget Sound SIGCHI is pleased to bring Indi Young to Seattle for a full-day workshop to heighten our skills in collaboration and developing our creativity.

Join us for a day of becoming aware of your assumptions and learning what cognitive empathy can mean for your work. Try out a new, deeper kind of listening, which forms the root of cognitive empathy, and apply it within your organization.

Cognitive empathy is about having a curious mindset, interested in understanding how another person reasons. This workshop is not about team-building, conflict-resolution, or culture change. There is no group-sharing. It is about practical abilities that you can develop as a part of your own skillset.

You’ll be cultivating abilities that can ultimately bring about a new way of collaborating within your organization. These skills will also allow you to reframe the way you solve problems for people. When you feed your creative mind with knowledge that reaches beyond the boundaries of your existing thinking, the ideas that bubble up in your creative moments are richer and can influence your organization in a positive direction.

In this workshop you will develop:

  • The ability to begin recognizing assumptions and investigating them
  • A personal method to practice deep listening
  • An approach for enriching your creative ideas
  • Techniques to pave the way for better collaboration at work
  • Clarity and vocabulary to get buy-in from stakeholders, clients, directors, internal and external teams

Tuition for the workshop is $250 by midnight Friday July 10, and $295 thereafter. Your tuition includes a fully catered breakfast, tea and coffee, lunch, and snacks. Space is limited to 40 participants, and the workshop is hosted at the inspiring space of POP Agency in downtown Seattle.
