Society for Technical Communication Event: The ABCs of Documentation Usability Testing

  • 17 Nov 2009

  • Coast Hotel - Bellevue, Washington

Most technical communicators understand the importance of usability testing for a product's success. Some may have even been involved in some way in a product usability test. However, many TCs have never conducted basic usability testing of their documentation. They may have thought that it was expensive and time-consuming; they may have worried that they lacked the experience or know-how; they may have been unsuccessful at selling the idea to management.

This presentation is a good introduction to the concepts of usability testing for documentation. It presents straight-forward guidelines and practical tips to allow any TC to get started with low-cost (yet effective) testing. It is appropriate for all levels, from new TCs to department managers.

Speaker: Leah Guren
